Can someone say where these left back rumors come from (other than being left footed)? He does not have a long history of games recorded on the internet but I have not seen one in which he plays there.
someone said yesterday there is a similar sounding or maybe even same name player who is a left back

I like these kind of signings. Can't lose really as such a price and if he works out could be worth something in the 20m + bracket in 3 years time. Can play left back as well :-)

Cardoso is a Hammer
Portuguese 18-year-old Centre back Gonçalo Cardoso has signed a five-year contract with West Ham and will be announced officially this afternoon as Manuel Pellegrini’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window.
The transfer fee is believed to be around £2.8m which was way below his release clause but the initial fee could be boosted by additional add-ons and a sell-on clause should he end up the finished article. He will be on modest wages for the Premier League.
The left-footed defender can also play at left-back but centre-back is his favored position and he is wanted to challenge Angelo Ogbonna and Winson Reid for the centre back pecking order.
A little bit of insight into the fifth signing from www.tugascout.com “The 18 year old is thought to potentially be one of Portugal’s future international centre-backs in the making, having already impressed at senior level in Portugal.
There are very high hopes for the 18-year old defender, who featured in 15 of Boavista’s 34 Primeira Liga matches last season, never looking out of place. He actually made his debut for Boavista back in October when he was just 17 years of age, playing the entirety of the 1-0 victory over Aves.
After that, he kept his place in the team, continuing to show maturity beyond his years as his positional awareness and reading of the game was regularly on show.
His excellent displays for Boavista earned him a starting spot at the U19 Euros last month, where he led Portugal to the final, playing in all of Portugal’s matches throughout the competition, captaining the side in the process.”
